Dr. Darren Kalkan
Falling Into Chiropractic—Literally
Before choosing a career in chiropractic, Dr. Darren moved to Louisville, KY, and spent some time working as a waiter in a high-end restaurant. During one of his shifts, while bringing out a tray of food, someone barreled in through the “out” door. He backpedaled to avoid a collision and was knocked into the air, landing on the back of his shoulder and neck. Shaking the impact off, he continued working.
The next morning, he bent down to tie his shoes and saw stars. For the first time in his life, Dr. Darren experienced the pain and nausea of migraines. Fortunately for him, the brother of the restaurant owner was a chiropractor.
After three adjustments, the migraines were gone! That’s when he realized you can take care of the human body without chemical or surgical solutions, and he decided to become a chiropractor.
Dr. Darren enrolled at Life University in Atlanta, GA, earning his Doctor of Chiropractic degree, with honors, in 2000. For over twenty two years, he has been helping people of all ages achieve their health goals.
He is excited to bring his vast experience from high volume practices in Detroit to West Lake Chiropractic! Experience is our greatest teacher & Dr Darren has been a student of the body going on almost two and a half decades!
Outside of Work
When he’s not treating patients, Dr. Darren never stops!! He loves cooking, gardening & spending time outdoors, golfing, hiking, softball & walking the dogs! Cheering on his Michigan State Spartans regardless if we lose to UNC & Duke!! Dr Darren is always trying to challenge himself with yoga and exercise, he likes to practice what he preach.
Dr. Michael R. Ward has been fascinated with chiropractic from a young age. When he was a teen Dr. Ward suffered from a serious low back injury while playing basketball. Fortunately, he was able to avoid surgical repair and received treatment from a chiropractor that allowed him to continue his active lifestyle and love of sports. Since this life changing event, Dr. Ward’s goal has been to provide care for others so they can continue their passions in life.
He attended Gaston College while working as a Chiropractic Assistant, and later attended UNC-Charlotte and Southeastern Louisiana University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science. He then attended Logan University in St. Louis, Missouri where he received his Chiropractic Doctorate.
Dr. Ward is a compassionate and caring chiropractor with a primary focus of injury prevention and promoting overall wellness.
